DONATE BOOKS

WHY YOUR BOOKS ARE SO IMPORTANT
Book donations like yours are the lifeblood of our organization. Guided by the spirit of the Friends’ mission to “foster a love of libraries, books and reading in the Knox County area…,” we channel the resource of donated books to best serve the needs of our citizens.
WHERE YOUR BOOKS GO
Mostly we sell books to the reading public at the lowest prices available, at sales venues such as the Friends@Rothrock Used Book Shop and the Annual Used Book Sale. The proceeds from these sales go to support KCPL programs and purchase equipment and supplies which are not available through the Library’s public appropriation. The KCPL has 'first dibs,' and often newer donated books go into the KCPL circulation (please see below for the System's Top Ten Most Wanted book titles.) We also maintain a number of Shoebox Libraries- collections specially curated for and delivered to sites where citizens cannot easily get to a library. We also donate books to a number of programs and one-time needs.
HOW TO DONATE BOOKS
Smaller book donations-those which could fit into a plastic grocery bag- can be taken to your nearest branch library. To avoid straining the Library courier system, we ask that book donations greater than a bag-full be taken to the main library downtown (500 W. Church Ave.) and left in the Friends@Rothrock Used Book Shop. If you are unable to bring donations to the Friends, please feel welcome to call coordinator Abby Wintker at 215-8775 to arrange a pick up from your home or business.
We accept all books except damaged, soiled, or mildewed books and encyclopedias over five years old.
LIBRARY TEN MOST WANTED BOOKS
You can never have too many of a hot best-seller. The Library wait-list is long, and the circulation department would love to have many more copies to lend. Please check this site frequently. The list will be updated as these needs are met and new ones arise. Thank you!
